Taylor found yoga after serious injury left her unable to perform her usual exercise routine. By integrating yoga with her knowledge as a psychologist and co-occurring disorders counselor, Taylor combines the therapeutic qualities of the practice with her biopsychosocial perspective of health and rehabilitation. A progressive yoga teacher, Taylor believes the practice should fit the practitioner, straying from the "one alignment fits all" philosophy and using a variety of techniques and evidence-based research in her teaching. She is known for her challenging classes that have students test their boundaries, weaving the physical challenge with the psychological one, both on and off the mat. Taylor encourages her students to play their edge, to let go of attachment, and learn what they're capable of doing.
Taylor focuses on anatomy, sequencing, and smart, safe, creative approaches to the practice. She believes good teachers are confident in their own teaching style, but can teach to the particular learning style of the student. She understands people begin yoga for various personal reasons, and a good teacher works from that space - free from expectation but confident in their ability to facilitate growth.
Taylor practices Vinyasa and Ashtanga styles of yoga, has been teaching in the River Valley area for several years, and is the owner and founder of Seva Yoga Studios in Ft. Smith. She is an E-RYT 200 through Yoga Alliance and is currently a Yoga Medicine 500 hour trainee studying with Tiffany Cruikshank. Additionally, she has trained with Noah Maze, and Bryce Yoga. She has a Master's degree in Forensic Psychology and worked in parole & probation, and psychological research. She studies Traditional Chinese Medicine, often incorporating it into her classes and therapeutic private sessions. This and her knowledge of psychology and anatomy allow her to create a sort of road map to guide her from the physical practitioner to the mental, emotional, and unseen one.
