Advanced Teacher Training
We are proud to announce our Level 2, 300-hour Advanced Yoga Teacher Training beginning October 2026! This training is for teachers with a 200-hour or Level 1 teacher certification who want to take their training to the next level. We take a closer look at what makes yoga so much more than exercise, to help our clients grow their practice, find their calm, and navigate life when life takes a turn.
Yoga teacher training is a big step, a big commitment, and brings about big change. When you decide to train you offer your time, money, and heart to a journey of personal growth and development. We understand how important the process is to you and promise to deliver an advanced training that shows you the true beauty of this practice.
Seva’s advanced training consists of 12 modules over the course of 18 months, totaling 400 hours of content. Some modules are required while others are optional, so you can study the subjects that match your interests. Upon completion of the modules, trainees conduct 3, 10-hour case studies focusing on their topics of choice.
Module 1
Karma, Bhakti, Jnana, & Raja: The Four Paths
Teachers reconnect with their inner student, reflecting on practice and teaching since their first training to build a solid foundation for the future. How are you receiving your own teachings? Do you have a goal or purpose beyond leading a sequence? What have you learned from your students? We explore these four paths with honesty and awareness, building Tapas through learning, discussion, and physical practice, to get an idea of where we are and where we want to go. This module has a long-term reflection, journaling, and report requirement designed to help trainees maintain Svadhaya throughout the 18 months of training. Eventually, the yogi’s personal path appears. *Required. 60 hours.
October 15-18, 2026: Part 1
November 12-15, 2026: Part 2
December 2026: OFF
Module 2
Advanced Asana Clinic: Spine
A detailed look at the spine and all its parts. How does yoga move the spine and how does the spine move the practitioner shape-to-shape, breath-to-breath, moment-to-moment? From meditation to flow, we learn how the spine carries us through our practice and our lives. We address dysfunction and common injuries within one’s scope of practice and apply therapeutic movement in classrooms and private settings. A written exam completes the lesson. *Required with exceptions. 50 hours.
January 21-24, 2027: Part 1
February 18-21, 2027: Part 2
Module 3
Teaching Yoga Philosophy
How do I teach ahimsa as a meat-eater? I remember only 4 of the 8 limbs on my best day. Didn’t Patanjali promise superpowers? Where are my superpowers? We look at modern life through a philosophical lens, applying ancient concepts to 21st century struggles. Teachers use their own experiences to understand and eventually share yogic philosophy with others, alchemizing their own pain and turning it into yoga. *Optional. 25 hours.
March 18-21, 2027
Module 4
Advanced Asana Clinic: Hip
A detailed look at the lumbo-pelvic-hip complex and its importance in a healthy, long-term practice. How much flexibility is too much? Is it true that we store emotions in the hips? How do we support a student with a hip injury? We address dysfunction and common injuries within one’s scope of practice and apply therapeutic movement in classrooms and private settings. A written exam completes the lesson. *Required with exceptions. 50 hours.
April 15-18, 2027: Part 1
May 13-16, 2027: Part 2
Module 5
Teaching the Energetic Practice
I don’t even notice my breath much less control it. My meditation max is 5 minutes. My Om sounds like an angry duck. Advanced teaching requires a level of comfort with physical energetic practices like pranayama and meditation so one can share those concepts clearly and concisely. This module teaches tiered approaches to pranayama and meditation, framing them with energetic concepts like Chakras, Koshas, and Vayus. Trainees deepen their own practice while learning creative and accessible ways to teach these concepts in a classroom, workshop, or private setting. *Optional. 50 hours.
June 17-20, 2027: Part 1
July 15-18, 2027: Part 2
Module 6
Advanced Asana Clinic: Shoulder
A detailed look at the shoulder complex and its integral role in a happy, fulfilling life. From our arms reaching out to the world, to the heartbeat and the breath in our chest, a healthy shoulder complex enhances expression and connection, but pain or lack of mobility may lead to a sense of helplessness. We address dysfunction and common injuries within one’s scope of practice and apply therapeutic movement in classrooms and private settings. A written exam completes the lesson. *Required with exceptions. 50 hours.
August 18-22, 2027: Part 1
September 16-19, 2027: Part 2
Module 7
Alchemy Meets the Nervous System
As yoga teachers we can teach our students techniques to enhance their energetic and emotional awareness so they may learn how to feel their emotions without physically (over)reacting to them. This may be one of life’s most valuable skills, but it is not a one-size-fits-all practice. Using our own life experiences we practice certain regulating techniques that help us function with feeling – we aren’t ignoring our emotions or reframing them, we sit with them and feel them fully. *Optional. 25 hours.
October 14-17, 2027
Module 8
Yoga When it Matters Most: Mental Health & Trauma-Informed Practice
Stillness isn’t always safe. Quiet isn’t always kind. Teachers may confuse calm and stillness with emotional regulation, or think the first step to self-awareness is meditation, which is rarely the case. Trauma-informed skills and techniques provide a foundation for teaching yoga to students struggling mentally, emotionally, or who may benefit from a trauma-informed practice. This module teaches teachers to recognize, support, and assist students who need a practice that supports their internal state. This module stays within the scope of a yoga teacher and does not involve any type of diagnosis or treatment. *Optional. 25 hours. This module must be taken with the module “Alchemy Meets the Nervous System.”
November 11-14, 2027
December 2027: OFF
Module 9
Smart Sequencing
Smart Sequencing starts with an idea that becomes a theme that is woven into every aspect of class. We learn how to weave movement, presence, transition, speech, sound, and mood into an entire experience, so students stay engaged in their practice and walk away feeling whole. Smart sequencing is not about creating enjoyable classes but effective ones that impart a concept, give an experience about that concept, and create lasting effects students can reflect upon in the days after. Smart sequencing teaches teachers how to gift wrap the practice so students can understand its teachings. If the Teaching Challenging Poses module is taken, this should also be taken. *Optional. 25 hours.
January 13-16, 2028
Module 10
Teaching Challenging Poses
Challenging poses can be defined as postures with a certain level of risk, requiring more strength, mobility, and flexibility, as well as specific knowledge of their safe execution and expected experience. Additionally, teachers who approach these poses with their students need to embody confidence and authority, so the student believes they’re in good hands. Teachers do not have to be able to physically execute a pose to teach it if they have the skills and knowledge to guide students smartly and safely. *Optional. 25 hours.
February 17-20, 2028
Module 11
Workshops & Private Sessions
Teachers learn how to develop fun and effective workshops and intuitive, dynamic private sessions. Design, develop, promote, and lead a workshop for the public, or hold 2 private sessions complete with intake, assessment, plan development, execution, and reassessment. The actual workshop or private sessions will be assessed. *Optional. 25 hours.
